Live Music Schedule
Each season, the Evergreen assembles an exciting selection of live music, which is offered on select evenings throughout the year. Performers range from local Yosemite favorites to up-and-coming Bay Area acts to national touring bands.

Our current music schedule for the 2008 season is shown below. Many additional bands will be added in the coming weeks.

Note that we periodically add new music events to our schedule, so please check back often.

Adam Burns Band
Join us for a night of music as we present one of our favorite new local acts, the Adam Burns Band.

In February 2005 a very nervous Adam Burns made his first public appearance as a singer/songwriter at a Tsunami benefit concert in El Portal, California. Adam grew up in rural England and has been playing guitar and singing since he was in high school. However, it was the creative and passionate community of El Portal that inspired him to finally bring his songs out of the closet.

The Adam Burns Band was born in 2005, when drummer Greg Nespor and bassist Greg Archer joined Adam for the ‘Amstock’ music festival. Soon afterwards, the addition of Kristin Ramsey on vocals, violin and guitar completed the current lineup. The band offers a compelling mixture of motown, pop, funk, reggae and rock.

Hot Buttered Rum
Join us for a night of fun and musical revelry with our longtime friends, Hot Buttered Rum.

In the short time since Hot Buttered Rum debuted its music, dubbed as a “High Altitude Acoustic Experience,” the band has been praised by fans, peers and national media alike, recognizing Hot Buttered Rum for their ‘stunning instrumental and vocal virtuosity.’

Hot Buttered Rum is attracting a truly multi-generational audience with its ability to create an undeniably hip and fresh sound that weaves together the grounded traditions of folk and bluegrass with the modern influences of rock-n-roll, reggae and acoustic singer/songwriters. With their extensive touring schedule, the band has become established as one of the nation’s hottest young touring acts since setting off as a group of friends on a trail in the high sierras in the early part of the decade to emerge as a band, appropriately named, Hot Buttered Rum.

Trespassers with Pathetic Honey
Join us for a night of music as we present renowned local string band, the Trespassers.

Hailing from the Yosemite National Park area, the Trespassers original music is inspired both by the beauty of their wild surroundings and by the decline of natural places like it. They 'trespass' social and political boundaries, as well as the boundaries of musical genres. They write and cover songs influenced by bluegrass, old-time and gypsy-jazz.

The Trespassers aim is to travel around celebrating life, spreading a message of peace, love, respect, political revolution, social consciousness, and creative expression through song and dance, all in a touring vehicle fueled by recycled veggie oil.

Playing primarily original tunes written by guitarists Dan Newitt and David Barrow, Pathetic Honey brings an interesting improvisational twist to their music. With the manic mandolin picking of Greg Lauer, and the rock-solid bass playing of Kevin Kelsey, this exciting mix of musicians gives the band a distinctive sound. Rhythmic color and pulse are provided by the tasteful and powerful drumming of Karl Jesse. Pathetic Honey's music is a mix of improvisational-rock, folk-rock, country, bluegrass and many, many other music styles.

The Horseshoes
Join us for a night of music as welcome the honky-tonk, Americana-folk sounds of the Horseshoes.

Famed Nashville songwriter Harlan Howard once said, "Country music is three chords and the truth." The Horseshoes would agree. This energetic female quintet, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, scorns "contemporary country" and celebrates the roots of country music. Fresh from their European tour, their debut CD "Get Lucky" is getting rave reviews on country music websites and radio stations throughout Belgium, Holland, the Netherlands, and even America.

Camilla, Joni, Lala, Emily and Diana come from varied backgrounds of music, but their mutual love for the time-honored songs of American old-time music and early honky-tonk country brings them together. Multi-instrumentalism is a trademark of the band: banjo, fiddle, guitar, upright bass, lap steel, dobro, mandolin, ukulele, honky-tonk piano, accordion, washboard and even spoons are featured in their music. Added with their sweet harmonies, and infectious original tunes, The Horseshoes evoke the best of a bygone era and bring that boot stomping, hollering spirit direct to you.

Little Muddy
Join us in the tavern as welcome Bay Area instrumental band, Little Muddy.

With a combination of evocative and rocking original instrumentals, and great interpretations of classic movie themes, R+B, country and rock classics, Little Muddy has forged a unique niche in instrumental roots-music.

Guitarist and founder Rich Goldstein has been a part of the Bay Area's music scene since 1990. Having spent his early years in rural southern Illinois, he was exposed to the best music of the 50's, 60's, and 70's, especially the country music of the day. Little Muddy has contributed music to the soundtracks of Camerado film productions, the award winning documentary Book Wars, and the soon to be released Susan Hero.

Green Machine
Join us in the tavern as we welcome the groovy reggae sounds of Green Machine.

Rising out of the post-Garcia and reggae scenes of the late 90's, Green Machine's constantly evolving sound has found its way into the hearts of music lovers everywhere. After years of experimentation with almost every genre, they have developed a unique sound that can only be described as "reggadelic jam jazz".

Tina Avila's powerful bass and vocals, Mars Copland's solid reggae drums and Chris Avila's guitar lines are complemented by the Rasta ramblings of reggae veteran Ras Horace. Green Machine's progressive message and solid grooves have landed them spots opening for the likes of Don Carlos and Isaac Halie Selassie. Their shows are truly a feast for the eyes, ears and soul.

Nathan McEuen
Join us for a night of music as we welcome singer/songwriter extraordinaire, Nathan McEuen.

Nathan McEuen grew up in and around the Rocky Mountains, surrounded by talented musicians. At an early age he started performing with his father, John McEuen (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), and brother, Jonathan McEuen (Hanna-McEuen). Undoubtedly, the family has powerfully shaped his musical inclinations and style, but his influences and pursuits span much farther. As a singer/songwriter, he constructs universal, nostalgic melodies and lyrics. His study and mastery of several instruments, including guitar, piano, drums, and bass, allow him great compositional range.

Three years ago, Nathan moved to California to continue pursuing his music career. In that time he has created his first solo record “Grand Design,” performed on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, opened for David Crosby and Graham Nash, Dave Mason, Kenny Loggins, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and has played over 500 shows.

Victor Barnes
Join us for a night of music as we present 'insurgent' bluegrass band, Victor Barnes.

Victor Barnes, of Northern Colorado, has been wearing out shoes on dance floors from Seattle to New Orleans with their original style of bluegrass-infused music since 1999. When they're not playing with national acts like Yonder Mountain String Band, The North Mississippi All-Stars and Railroad Earth, Victor Barnes can be found serving the needs of their loyal fan-base at venues throughout the Colorado Front Range.

Recent live appearances by Victor Barnes on local radio programs such as Planet Radio, KRFC's Radio Days and KCSU have spotlighted the breakneck speed at which their popularity has grown. Victor Barnes success has resulted in the production of their first full length CD, Bad Weather, released in early 2006. Victor Barnes is heading back to the studio in early 2007.

The Williams Brothers Band
Join us for a night of music as we welcome for the first time to the Evergreen, the Williams Brothers Band.

The Williams Brothers were molded on the streets of Oakland, California during the seventies (the only "white boys" on Salisbury Street) listening to their parents vast blues & country vinyl collection, the funk that flowed out of boomboxes (pre hip-hop), and the psychedelic folk rock that blossomed in the East Bay Area during that time.

So it was inevitable that the brothers followed their families lineage of song and dance men - great, great, great, great Grandpa penned the traditional favorite, "Sweet Betsy from Pike" in mid 1800's; great, great Grandpa had a country swing big band that toured the U.S. extensively in the 1910s-1920s.

A Williams Brothers show features intertwining songs and extended improv-induced jams fueled by any and all auditory stimuli to have ever sounded - there is no genre or barrier that is considered unusable.

Free Peoples
Join us for a night of music as we present direct from the San Francisco Bay Area, Free Peoples.

Free Peoples is an Americana/Rock/Jazz hybrid band, whose music conjures up images of the wild west. They will take you on a journey to Mars and back before depositing you safely back by your campfire. Through intricate melodies and delicate three part harmonies, they offer up a synthesis of both the old and the new, incorporating styles as diverse as the many paths we all travel.

Free Peoples is steadily becoming a band of extreme note, through exceptional song-writing, mind-blowing guitar leads, and the highest levels of musicianship and emotion rarely found in today's popular music. Free Peoples is a band on the move and on the rise!

Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit
Join us for a night of music as we present direct from the California Central Valley, Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit.

The Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit has been entertaining the people of the Central Valley for 3 years. They began as a collaboration of an Oakdale-based singer/songwriter's collective (the 52 Week Club), and since joining forces, have been nominated every year for best band in their category for the Modesto Area Music Awards (MAMA). In fact, the "all-star" lineup, all members of former local bands, collectively represents three MAMA awards for best accoustic and independent bands.

As part of the live entertainment for last year's MAMA's, they were reviewed by modestofamous.com as the "best performance" of the night and the only group where "people felt like dancing." Indeed, The Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit's strength is the energy and exuberation they project during their live shows.

Their sound has been described as Americana with drums, folk-rock-country, blue-billy-rock-grass, jam-folk-pirate-reel-Texas-swing, a little something for everyone that likes dancin' or just tappin' their feet on the bar-stool foot-rest. With one successful record release under their belts and their highly anticipated sophmore effort due out this summer, their fan base continues to grow. But, it is the live shows that keep their fans coming back to see them time and again, to get their fill of some good-old, wholesome, swing-your-partner, stomp-your-feet, knee-slapping, good times fun.

The Dogs
Join us for a night of music as we present "Yosemite's House Band", The Dogs.

The Dogs have been a staple in the High Sierra music scene for almost three decades. Songwriter and lead singer Kevin Parker, fresh off a winning performance on the Gong Show, was performing solo in El Portal on the western edge of Yosemite National Park in 1978 when San Francisco bass player Dave Jess and local drummer Bobby Metzler started sitting in. Together with Gary Sears, who had worked with Parker as a singing waiter, the high-energy, ska tinged, folk-fueled, power pop of the Dogs caught on and in the early eighties the Dogs performed all over the Sierras.

Parker left the band in 1983 to move to the Virgin Islands. In 1989 the Dogs reunited for a reunion tour and a new CD. Since then they have been showing up several times a year at some great mountain venues including the Whoa Nellie Deli at Mono Lake, the Flying Pig in Sonora and The Johnny Clark Community Hall in scenic El Portal. They are excited to be returning to the Evergreen Lodge after twenty-five years.

Fighting Chance
Join us for a night of music as we present for the first time at the Evergreen Lodge, Fighting Chance.

Formed in 2003 by longtime friends Erin G. and Ryan East, Fighting Chance started playing original acoustic songs in local coffee shops, and soon moved on to a US tour with nothing more than a couple hundred copies of a burned demo to fuel their journey. Their debut album was released in 2006 to rave reviews and has helped Fighting Chance form their signature rock/reggae/ska sound. This release was followed by extensive touring in 2006 and 2007, including dates and tours with the Expendables, the Aggrolites, Slightly Stoopid, Live, Buckcherry, Blues Traveler, Cheap Trick and many more.

The Rusty Strings
Join us for a night of music as we present for the first time at the Evergreen Lodge, The Rusty Strings.

Rousting acoustic pickin' accompanied by sweet voices make the Rusty Strings a bomber combo in this day and age. Add a heaping helping of camaraderie and you get an inimitable blend of kindred spirits generating rootsy ethereality. Their sound rings true. Fatally flawed relationships, comedic truths, road trip fantasies, the arcane and banal, the dark and unknown, are a few of the maxims woven through the songbook of the Rusty Strings.

Since early 2005, the Rusty Strings have been harkening back to a bygone area of boxcars, whiskey and workin' with steam power all the while thriving in the freshness of the present moment. Characterized by high lonesome fiddle and banjo on top of time-honored harmonic structures, the band's sound makes the elders tap their toes, the young ones get up and dance and everybody else just have a great time.

The Bluebellies
Join us for a night of music as we welcome for the first time to the Evergreen Lodge, the Bluebellies.

The Bluebellies bring energy and wit with their songs exploring farming, food, religion and llamas. Taking inspiration from the roots of American traditional music but folding in their own diverse musical flavors and urban influences to create an original sound. Listen for the back porch, the campfire and the lament of the encroaching urban sprawl in the songs of the Bluebellies.
