These are the trips the Evergreen owners takes their friends on, basically the ‘insiders’ look at the magical parts of Yosemite.

While specific trips are subject to change (both day to day and seasonally), our current offering is summarized below:

Hetch Hetchy Wapama Falls Historic Naturalist Hike
EXPLORE YOSEMITE’S HIDDEN GEM
Offered February - June, November - December

The story of the Evergreen Lodge begins here in Hetch Hetchy with the creation of the O’Shaughnessy Dam and the hundreds of workers who traveled to this once remote area in the early 1900’s to begin building the dam. Our naturalist guides will take you back in time and share the fascinating history of the Hetch Hetchy Valley, the controversial dam, Camp Mather and the Evergreen lodge during a beautiful 5 mile round trip hike winding far above the shores of Hetch Hetchy’s tranquil reservoir to iconic 1,200 foot Wapama Falls.

Despite its storied past, Hetch Hetchy today remains a crowd-free jewel of Yosemite and a stunning smaller sister of Yosemite Valley. Hetch Hetchy offers splendid walking among granite domes, waterfalls, creeks and small meadows. The area features a unique beauty that moved John Muir to refer to Hetch Hetchy as “one of Nature’s rarest and most precious mountain temples.” During our 2.2 mile hike (each way), you will also gain a better understanding of the trees, wildlife, geology and natural history of this diverse area. We will relax at the base of powerful Wapama Falls, where its two-tiered falls tumble into the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, before beginning our return journey.

‘Yosemite Valley Explorer’ Stagecoach Road Hike & Tour
OUR MOST IN DEPTH AND INTIMATE LOOK AT YOSEMITE VALLEY
Offered April - June

Celebrate the 120th anniversary of Yosemite National Park as you experience Yosemite Valley at its finest with this combination Valley tour and guided hike along an abandoned stagecoach route to one of Yosemite’s most spectacular, historic and least known vistas! During our tour, we visit the Valley’s most famous waterfalls and vista points, and we enjoy a variety of additional stops along the way, including the world-renown Ahwahnee Hotel and El Capitan Meadow, where we watch climbers ascend the largest rock face in the world.

Our 3.5 mile hike follows the historic Old Big Oak Flat Stagecoach route, which in its prime in the 1920’s brought stagecoaches and cars within a few miles of the new Evergreen Lodge and eventually into Yosemite Valley. Though the old road has been long abandoned and nature has done its best to remove it from the landscape, a wonderful, gradual trail still remains. Along this secluded trail you will learn about Yosemite’s flora, fauna, geology and natural history while enjoying stunning views of Half Dome, the south rim of Yosemite Valley, Bridalveil Falls, Ribbon Falls and Turtleback Dome. Learning about the storied history of Evergreen Lodge and Yosemite National Park will give you a unique perspective as we head back to our modern stagecoach. Between the hike and other side trips, you can plan to be on the trail for 5-6 miles total. It’ll be a day to remember – bring your camera!
